US DOE Solar Targets
The US Department of Energy (DOE) recently issued a brief titled “Investing in a Clean Energy Future: Solar Energy Research, Deployment, and Workforce Priorities.”
The DOE August 2021 brief concluded that simply to meet current decarbonization goals for US electricity generation, the rate of solar deployment in the US “would need to accelerate to three to four times faster than its current rate by 2030”.
According to LLNL, electricity generation made up about 37% of US energy consumption in 2019. So, the DOE-stated target for solar PV does not include the majority (63%) of the US energy markets, which are largely powered by fossil fuels, which include most of transportation, building heating & cooling and industrial energy use.
PI Energy’s addressable markets include all energy markets (electricity, transportation, building heating & cooling, and industrial applications).
