All products, including wind turbines and traditional solar PV modules, require energy to fabricate, transport, and install. Most of today’s solar PV is manufactured using a lot of energy supplied from the burning of coal.

Renewable energy today only makes up only about 6% of primary energy consumed globally. The current rate of growth for clean energy is insufficient to meaningfully mitigate climate impacts, and without significant changes in the underlying technologies of today’s renewable energy, it could take many decades to reach an energy transition.
